How to Close a Checkout After a Date or Number of Orders

CartFlows Pro includes Checkout Expiry, which closes a checkout automatically once a set number of orders comes in or a set date and time passes. It’s a simple way to run limited-time launches, early-bird pricing, or offers with a limited number of spots.

This guide walks you through how Checkout Expiry works, how to set up each option, and what your visitors see once the checkout closes.

How Checkout Expiry Works

Checkout Expiry is set on each checkout step in a funnel. You can close the checkout in two ways, and use one or both.

  • After a number of orders: The checkout stays open until it receives the number of orders you set.
  • After a date and time: The checkout stays open until the date and time you pick.

Once the checkout closes, visitors who open it are sent to the page you choose, such as a “sold out” or “offer ended” page. If you turn on both options, the checkout closes as soon as either one is reached.

How to Set Up Checkout Expiry

Step 1. From the WordPress admin, go to CartFlows → Funnels and open the funnel you want to update.

Step 2. Click the settings icon on the checkout step to open its settings.

Step 3. In the left menu, under Settings, click Checkout Expiry.

Now set up one or both of the options below.

Close the Checkout After a Number of Orders

Step 1. Turn on Close Checkout After Number of Orders.

Step 2. In Number of Orders, enter how many orders the checkout should accept.

Step 3. In Redirect URL, enter the page visitors should see once the limit is reached.

Step 4. Click Save Settings.

The Close Checkout After Number of Orders option turned on, with 100 orders and a redirect URL filled in

Only orders placed after you turn this option on count toward the limit. Paid orders and orders on hold are counted. If an order is refunded, cancelled or deleted, it no longer counts, and the checkout opens again if it drops below the limit.

Close the Checkout After a Date and Time

Step 1. Turn on Close Checkout After Date & Time.

Step 2. In Expiry Date & Time, pick the date and time the checkout should close, then click Apply.

Step 3. In Redirect URL, enter the page visitors should see after that time.

Step 4. Click Save Settings.

The Close Checkout After Date & Time option turned on, with an expiry date, time and redirect URL filled in

The checkout closes at the exact time you pick, based on your site’s timezone under Settings → General in WordPress.

Checkout Expiry is now active on that checkout step.

What Your Visitors See

Once the checkout closes, anyone who opens it is taken straight to your Redirect URL. You can enter a full web address or a page on your own site, such as /offer-ended/. If you leave the field empty, visitors are taken to your homepage.

If a visitor already has the checkout open when it closes, they see the message “Sorry, this checkout is no longer accepting orders.” when they try to place the order.

When you’re logged in as an admin, you can still open a closed checkout to review it. A notice above the checkout form reminds you that it’s closed for new orders.
