CartFlows 1.9 Update

Setting up your store is just one part of the game. You also need to optimize everything so customers can buy what they want easily, be excited about the upsold products, and keep coming back for more.

The features released in the previous version, CartFlows 1.8, were all aimed towards increasing your average order value and making you more money.

In this update, we are introducing a new powerful feature that could easily be a plugin on its own!

Introducing Modern Checkout.

The default WooCommerce checkout doesn’t cut it anymore. You will end up losing sales.

Over the years, we’ve noted repeating trends of what works and what doesn’t in the eCommerce space.

With the help of the tight-knit CartFlows community, these observations were discussed at length.

And now, all those observations have been combined into a single, easy-to-use feature – Modern Checkout.

Let’s explore this feature update further.

What is Modern Checkout?

Modern Checkout helps you significantly enhance the customer shopping experience.

With a simple toggle, you can switch out the old checkout page for a beautiful and intuitive experience that encourages users to progress more fluidly through checkout.

Modern Checkout lets you design every element of your checkout page. You can match your product and store style, make the purchasing process faster and easier, and help boost revenue by reducing distractions.

Here’s how Modern Checkout speeds up checkout:

  • Account validation – Check if the account exists as your customer begins typing their email address. If it does, the password field is automatically displayed. If not, customers can check a box and their checkout details can be used to create their user account!
  • Google address autocomplete – The address field displays address suggestions as your customers begin typing. Once they select an address, the rest of the fields are auto-filled.
  • Field manager – Add, remove, and reorder fields on your checkout page easily with the Modern Checkout layout.
  • Express checkout – Skip the forms. Let users pay using their preferred payment gateways that directly integrate with CartFlows.

Let’s learn more about these features and how to implement them.

Implementing a Modern Checkout Experience

Enough with the talk already. This section is all about getting things set up for your store.

So without further ado, let’s enable some of the new features.

How To Enable CartFlows Modern Checkout

Modern Checkout is available as a checkout skin under the flow settings. Follow these steps to enable the feature.

  • Go to CartFlows > Flows
  • Edit the flow where you want to enable modern checkout

  • Click Edit for the checkout page step
  • Scroll down on the Design tab for the Design Settings section. NOTE: This design set will appear when using the [cartflows_checkout] shortcode.
Select Modern Checkout
  • Switch the Checkout Skin to Modern Checkout
  • Click Save Settings and your checkout page is now switched to Modern Checkout with all new features that we’ve added.

Let’s now explore the changes that you’ll see on your Modern Checkout page!

1. Account Validation and Creation

The default WooCommerce checkout pages perform account validation after form submission. This slows down the process for customers.

Modern Checkout validates form fields in real-time at the start!

How Does Account Validation Work?

Let’s say a user visits your online store for the first time and they do not have an account. Here’s an example of what happens when they enter their email.

Since the account does not exist, the checkbox remains on the screen.

If the user checks the box, they’re immediately prompted to enter a username and password to complete the account creation.

But what if the user has already registered?

In this case, a user types their email address that is already registered with the online store.

The account validation happens instantly and displays the password prompt.

After entering the password, the address details if available will be used and users can continue to checkout with their previous settings.

Account validation is automatically enabled once you switch to Modern Checkout.

2. Google Auto Address

CartFlows now integrates with the Google Maps API to make entering shipping/billing addresses intuitive. This makes it super-easy for your customers to enter their addresses and speeds them ahead in the checkout process.

Let’s see how it works.

How Does Google Autocomplete Address Work?

Whenever users begin typing in an address, the most relevant addresses will be auto-suggested under the fields.

If the user selects an address from the suggestions, the rest of the address fields will be automatically filled with the details.

How To Enable Google Auto Address

Here are the steps to enable Google Autocomplete Addresses on your checkout forms.

  • Go to CartFlows > Settings > Google Auto Address
  • Create your Google Maps API Key by following this article and adding it to CartFlows.

  • Next, edit the flow where you want to enable this feature
  • Then, go ahead and edit the Checkout step of your flow
  • Go to the Settings tab > Checkout Settings
  • Check the Enable Google Address Autocomplete checkbox
  • Hit Save settings

3. Improved Pay Button

You need to build all the trust with your customers so they can make their first purchase. Once you fulfill the first order well, repeat orders become much easier.

Secure Payment Button

With Modern Checkout, we’ve added the security padlock symbol to the Pay button.

Along with that, the button also displays the total cart value!

We did this for two reasons:

  • The basic Pay Now button is generic
  • The padlock and the cart value on the button help build more trust and reinforce the total amount the customer has to pay

4. Express Checkout

CartFlows works with Checkout Plugins – Stripe for WooCommerce to offer Express Checkout via Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Browser Pay on the Modern Checkout layout.

This feature also works with one-click upsells making it even more convenient for your buyers to purchase the add-on offers. Express Checkout is a single payment button that lets users skip the checkout form to complete the payment using their preferred payment app.

The details are supplied to the store automatically by the payment processor.

How Does Express Checkout Work?

Since a majority of eCommerce traffic is mobile, let’s consider an example of a mobile user visiting your website.

If you have enabled the Express Checkout feature on your page, an Android user will see an additional “Google Pay” button on their screen.

By clicking that button, they can skip the form filling process and complete the payment through the Google Pay app installed on their phone, as shown below.

This makes it easy for them to proceed with the purchase without getting distracted.

If a user does not have the address added to their payment account, they’ll have to enter the details before proceeding. But that’s a one-time process.

From their next purchase onwards, their preferred payment apps will automatically default to the same address as they have used before

How To Enable Express Checkout

Follow the steps below to enable Express Checkout.

  • Install the Checkout Plugins – Stripe for WooCommerce plugin which helps you enable express checkout on CartFlows
  • Go to WooCommerce > Settings
  • Click on the Payments tab
  • Enable Stripe Card Processing – Credit Card (Stripe) and then click Setup on the right of your screen
  • Go to the Express Checkout link visible right below the tabs

  • Check the Enable express checkouts checkbox and set the pages where you want express checkout to work
  • Hit Save changes once you’ve configured everything correctly.

That’s it. Your Express checkout buttons should now be visible on the selected pages. Depending on the device you use to checkout, a different button will be visible. For example, if you use an iPhone, you’d see an Apple Pay express checkout button. With Android, you’d see Google Pay if you have the app setup and installed.

5. Other Improvements

Apart from these, there are other updates to improve the look, behavior, and interactivity of the checkout forms.

These subtle changes add to the overall customer experience when they make a purchase from your store.

Here is a list of the changes:

  • Floating Order Summary: The order summary is now even more eye-grabbing! As your customers scroll through the form, the order summary sticks to the page and stays visible at all times.
  • New Order Loading Animation: As your order forms recalculate the shipping charges or the order total after adding a new product, the new loading animation fades the text before reloading the new order value.
  • Floating Labels: This is a tiny change to the form label behavior. Earlier, the labels moved up as soon as the user clicked on the field. But based on the latest material design principles, the labels inside the form field move up only after the user begins typing in the field.
  • Collapsible Order Summary on Mobiles: When using Modern Checkout layout, you’ll also see a collapsible order summary feature to save space on mobile devices and keep the focus on completing their payments instead of scrolling around to find the pay button.
  • Thank You Page: The Thank You page will not be displayed if no valid order is found and for non-logged users.
  • Pre-Checkout Offer: We have made two minor changes on the Pre-Checkout offer. You can view a preview of the pre-checkout offer in the checkout page settings. Pre-Checkout offer can be enabled/disabled for all the flows globally from CartFlows settings and individually from checkout page settings.
  • One-Column Checkout Layout: CartFlows free users can now use one-column checkout layout on their store. Previously, this layout was only available for Pro users.

We’re super excited to announce the launch of brand-new features that we feel are the future of funnel building.

At CartFlows, we believe in bringing out the best solutions that help our users. We’d like to create products and features that are simple yet easy.

Before we get into the details of these new additions to CartFlows, we’ve got a question for you.

How do you add upsells and order bumps? You know, those offers you put across to your customers after they’ve made an initial purchase, to increase the average order value.

We’re assuming you use the One-Click Upsells feature in CartFlows to make additional offers after the checkout. You could also use the CartFlows Order Bumps feature to offer a related product during the checkout process.

In either case, you’ll individually select the products to promote.

That all works great if you have limited products in your store. But what if you’re a massive store with multiple products? Would you create numerous landing pages and multiple flows?

How would it be to showcase relevant products dynamically based on what your customers have added to their cart? Wouldn’t it be great to set up the flow once and promote appropriate products on autopilot? At least without you having to make a zillion sales funnels.

That’s precisely what Dynamic Offers, the latest feature in CartFlows, does.

CartFlows 1.8 Updates

Once you’ve designed the funnel and included the various offers, wouldn’t it be nice to provide a frictionless checkout experience to your customers and have a visual representation of funnels? You know, get to see the customer’s journey through your sales funnel. Not to mention, you could also manage the entire flow.

Dynamic Offers

As the name suggests, Dynamic Offers is when you dynamically promote relevant and targeted offers based on what your customer has selected.

Dynamic Offers for Upsells

By using Dynamic Offers for Upsells, you get to create customized offers on the checkout page to display relevant upsells and downsells based on predefined conditions.

It works similarly to the upsells and downsells you’re already familiar with.

The only difference being, you don’t have to add individual offers. Based on the conditions you define, relevant offers are promoted for you.

Let’s see this in action.

To use the new feature, you’ll need to head to your CartFlows Account, download the 1.8.0 and then upload and install it to your website.

To set up your dynamic offers, head over to CartFlows > Flows.

Click on the flow that you’d like to add your dynamic offers to.

The idea here is to add conditions to your checkout page. After all, we’ve got to promote the offers based on what the customer has selected.

So click on Edit against your checkout page.

Now, click on the Dynamic Offers tab.

You start by clicking on the ‘Enable Dynamic Offers’ checkbox.

Once you do, you’ll be presented with a few additional options. This is where you create your dynamic offers.

For the first dynamic offer, you are creating, select the condition and relation, from the dropdown menu.

There are multiple conditions that you can create. For instance, you can create a condition not just based on the product the customer selects, but also on the basis of product category, product tags, shipping method, and a lot more.

All these options are available for you under the Products drop-down.

Want to add additional conditions? Simply click on the ‘Add Condition’ button and create similar conditions.

You also have a fallback option, just in case, all your conditions failed and your customer didn’t go for any of the upsells and downsells.

Click Save Settings when you are done.

With this, you have just created your dynamic offers.

Isn’t this simpler than creating multiple flows for all the products in your store? We definitely think so!

Dynamic Offers for Order Bumps

The right offer during checkout can compel users into making that additional purchase.

With Dynamic Offers for Order Bumps, you can set up conditions to display targeted offers based on what you know about the customer.

Here’s an example of how this feature works:

  • If a customer adds coffee to her cart, we can assume she might like a coffee mug.
  • Set up a rule to dynamically display a beautiful coffee mug right before she pays and there’s a high chance that she will add it to the cart as well.

Dynamic Offers for Order Bumps lets you pair up products based on a user’s shopping behavior. You can then display them on the checkout page to potentially increase your average order value!

Benefits of Using Dynamic Offers

While the feature may not necessarily be helpful for store owners with only a product or two on sale, the dynamic offers feature is a huge time saver for larger online stores with multiple products.

Instead of creating multiple flows, order bumps, upsells and downsells, all you have to do is create some dynamic offers, add conditions and you’re good to go.

Some of the additional benefits of using dynamic offers are:

  • Easier to sell products via order bumps, upsells and downsells
  • Offer relevant products and offers based on users’ selection
  • Targeted deals and offers
  • Increase conversion and revenue
  • Customize the thank you page based on the product purchased

Canvas Mode (version 1.0)

The next new feature, and something that we are really excited about, is Canvas mode. Canvas mode enables you to build and manage your entire sales funnel visually.

It’s like a big drawing board. Once you create a flow, it will be shown on the canvas. You can then move elements around until it works how you want it to.

Canvas Mode

In its current form, Canvas allows you to see a visual representation of the dynamic offers and flow you just created. By selecting any step, you are presented with icons to either edit or view the step.

Apart from visually seeing your flow and dynamic offers, a few additional buttons on your canvas are zoom-in, zoom-out, fit to screen, and full screen.

Benefits of Using Canvas Mode

In its current form, i.e., Canvas Mode v1.0, the feature helps you understand the entire flow of your sales funnel visually. You can also manage your entire funnel from the canvas view.

This is particularly helpful when you have a number of products on offer. With a visual representation, you get a birds-eye view of the entire flow and ensure you’ve got all your offers in the right place.

Checkout Takeover

The third feature we have launched is Checkout Takeover, which replaces the WooCommerce checkout page with the completely customizable CartFlows checkout to get better analytics and improve conversions.

The default WooCommerce checkout page has certain features by default.

But what if you wanted to keep the URL the same, yet have a completely customizable checkout page using CartFlows?

Introducing Checkout Takeover.

Now, you can switch the default WooCommerce checkout page with the CartFlows checkout page.

Build a completely customizable checkout experience for your customers, redirect all customers through the same checkout page URL, and keep track of all the completed checkouts from the CartFlows dashboard.

To enable Checkout Takeover, follow the 3 easy steps below:

  1. Go to CartFlows > Settings > Global Checkout
  2. Select a checkout page from the dropdown menu
  3. And check “Takeover Checkout

From now on, the checkout page will have the WooCommerce checkout page URL with CartFlows working on the backend.

Sneak Peek into the CartFlows Future Updates

The current version of Canvas Mode is what we refer to as version 1.0. As mentioned earlier, in its current form, it helps visually see how your funnel works.

While we wouldn’t want to delve more into the upcoming features of Canvas Mode, soon you will be able to add steps, connect steps, view traffic numbers, and a lot more visually.

You will also be able to create an entire funnel from scratch in canvas mode itself.

Several integrations and automation are being worked upon that will help you schedule your emails, and also seamlessly integrate with the core products on your WordPress site.

Fast forward to today, with nearly 200,000 websites powered by CartFlows, we are well on our way to that goal.

Despite 2020 being a challenging year for everyone, the entire CartFlows team really pulled together to launch over 20 new features and feature enhancements that all lead up to todays launch of our new user interface.

Experience the New UI/Design of CartFlows Admin Area

In this version of CartFlows, we have added some new improvements and updated user interface for the CartFlows’ backend settings.

If you feel that you want to use the old UI again, we have added an option to switch from the new UI to the old and vice versa.

Do note this option to switch between the new & old UI is temporary. The old UI will be deprecated in a few months when most users are comfortable using the new interface.

If you are an existing user of CartFlows you will get an option in CartFlows to switch to the new UI.

A notice will be displayed to switch to new UI at the top of the page.

For old/existing users: Notice displaying the option to switch to new UI/Design of CartFlows.

In this notice, there is a button which you can use to switch to the new UI for CartFlows. This message will be displayed only to those users who are currently using older versions of CartFlows i.e. below 1.6.0.

If you are a new user of CartFlows, i:e you have just installed CartFlows on your website then you will be presented with the new and refined UI of the CartFlows without displaying the older UI and the above-mentioned notice.

But if you wish to switch to the older UI then in the CartFlows pages at the bottom you will find using the following button – Switch to Old UI.

Accessible and Redesigned Menus of CartFlows

In this latest update, we have tweaked the existing menu of the CartFlows in three different categories —

The Global Menu: This is the main menu that is useful to navigate in and out of your flows, manage the global setting of CartFlows. Which includes, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Offer Setting, CartFlows Permalink Setting etc.

Flow’s Menu: This menu is newly introduced to provide a separate settings area for the flow which you are currently editing.

Steps Menu: This new menu is introduced to manage all the setting related to the step’s design in one place.

Also, on the steps page, you will see a major change because we are no longer using the default WordPress editor. It will be totally converted to the new UI of CartFlows.

Here you will notice there are no settings or design meta boxes displayed.

This is why in 2020 we added native page builder modules to move all the design settings where they belong, which is in your drag and drop visual page builder. 

If you are using another page builder for which we have not added widgets/components/blocks then you will get a design/setting box using which you can add the shortcode and design as per your needs.
